Cancellations: the 7-and-7 rule

Our cancellation policy is the same for every trip on the platform: simple, predictable, and not buried in fine print.

Built forSmartphoneTabletDesktopEvery FairCar feature works identically across devices.

Guest cancellations

Full refund if BOTH are true: (a) you cancel within 7 days of when you booked, AND (b) the trip is still at least 7 days away from starting.

If either is false, the trip is non-refundable. This is deliberate: it stops last-minute cancellations from leaving hosts with an unbookable car.

Host cancellations

Host cancellations always trigger a 100% refund to the guest. We also help the guest re-book a comparable car, and FairCar may charge the host reasonable rebooking costs the guest incurs.

Every host gets 3 free cancellations in any rolling 12 months. Each host cancellation after that costs $50, taken out of your next payouts (never charged to your card). Your cancel screen shows where you stand before you confirm.

Only cancelling a paid booking before pickup counts. Guest cancellations, unpaid checkouts, guest no-shows and cancellations by FairCar never count and never cost a fee.

Repeat host cancellations affect your listing's search ranking and can lead to suspension.

Guest no-shows

If the guest never picks up the car, the host can mark a no-show within 24 hours of pickup, as long as the guest hasn't submitted the pickup inspection.

A no-show is treated like a late guest cancellation: the trip price follows the policy (usually non-refundable), the host keeps the trip earnings, and the sales tax is refunded to the guest. Marking a no-show is never a host cancellation.
