Bring it back the way you got it. Here's exactly how fuel and charging policies work.
Gas vehicles
Return the car at the same fuel level you picked it up at (the inspection records this with a photo of the gauge).
If you return short, the host charges market price per gallon plus a $15 refueling fee. Bringing it back fuller than pickup does NOT earn you a credit.
EVs
Most listings require a minimum return state-of-charge — typically 70%. The listing page shows the exact number.
Short on charge? Plug in at any public L2 station for 30–60 minutes; that's almost always enough to clear the threshold without paying the host's reimbursement rate (typically $0.45–$0.65/kWh, much higher than retail).
Supercharging on a Tesla host's car is allowed and billed at cost through the host's account — that line item appears on your final receipt.
