Guest pickup checklist — what to do when you meet the host
A 5-minute pickup keeps your trip on time and protects your deposit. Here's exactly what to do.

Before you arrive
Open the trip page in the FairCar app — it has the address, host phone, lockbox code if applicable, and a 'Start inspection' button.
Bring your physical driver's license. If you booked with a different name than appears on your ID, the host will cancel the trip and you'll forfeit the service fee.
The 5-minute walkaround
Tap 'Start inspection' and follow the prompts. Photograph each panel (front, back, both sides, both 3/4 angles), the wheels, the dashboard with the car on, and the odometer.
Log any existing scratches, dents, or interior stains with a close-up photo and a one-line note. If you don't log it, you may be on the hook for it at return.
Confirm the fuel level (or EV state-of-charge) shown on the dash matches what's recorded — flag any mismatch before you drive off.
Test before you leave
Start the car. Check that all warning lights clear after ~30 seconds. If a tire-pressure, oil, or check-engine light stays on, message the host through FairCar (not text) before driving.
Adjust mirrors, seat, and pair your phone. Locate the parking brake, gear selector, and (for EVs) the charge port release — every car is different.
Sign in and message the FairCar admin team from your in-app Messages — a real person replies within one business day. We don't outsource support.
