Extending or shortening a trip in progress

Open the trip page → 'Modify trip' → pick a new return time. The host gets an instant approval request. If the car is available, most extensions confirm within 30 minutes.

Never just keep the car past the booked return time. Late returns past a 30-minute grace period are billed at the host's late-return rate (typically 1.5× the nightly rate, prorated by hour) and can trigger an unauthorized-use claim.

You can return early any time — the host doesn't need to approve. But the trip is non-refundable for the unused nights unless the host's listing specifically allows early-return refunds.

If you return more than 24 hours early and the host re-books the car, FairCar will refund the overlapping nights automatically.
