Age, license, and eligibility requirements
Who can rent on FairCar — and what young-driver fees, license types, and international licenses look like.
Minimum age
21 to book most vehicles. 25 to book luxury, sports, and EV listings (insurance restriction).
Drivers 21–24 pay a young-driver fee (typically $10–$25/day) shown at checkout, not buried in fine print.
License requirements
A valid, non-suspended driver's license from a US state, US territory, Canadian province, or supported country (see /trust/coverage).
License must have been issued at least 12 months ago. Learner's permits, temporary paper licenses, and licenses with restrictions like 'no freeway' are not accepted.
International guests
Most international licenses are accepted if printed in English (or accompanied by an International Driving Permit). You'll upload a passport in addition to your license during ID verification.
Some hosts require a US-issued credit card as a backup payment method. Debit cards alone are accepted but may trigger a higher deposit hold.
