How disputes work — the 5-day self-service flow

Most disagreements settle without FairCar staff. Here's how the flow runs.

Built forSmartphoneTabletDesktopEvery FairCar feature works identically across devices.

Opening a dispute

Either side can open a dispute from the trip page within 72 hours of the trip's end. Pick a category (damage, late return, cleaning, toll, fuel) and upload photos or receipts.

The 5-day clock

Day 0–2: the responding party reviews and either accepts the proposal, counters with a different amount, or rejects with evidence.

Day 2–4: counter-offer round. Most disputes close here.

Day 5: if no agreement, the dispute auto-escalates to FairCar Trust & Safety. We review both sides' evidence and make a binding decision within two business days.

Critical safety issues

Stolen vehicle, accident with injury, harassment, or weapons in the car bypass the 5-day flow entirely. Use Report safety on the trip page; we engage within 1 hour.
